Maintenance Required Lamp/Indicator: Service and Repair

Service Interval Display, from May 1999, Resetting

Reset Service Reminder Indicator using the adjustment button for odometer and clock at instrument cluster

Service interval display must be reset at
- every service

Note
At the delivery inspection, vehicles with LongLife service (PR number QG1) are not to have the service interval display reset with the adjusting button for distance and time on the instrument panel insert. Reason: if the service interval display is reset using the distance and time adjusting button in the instrument cluster, the cluster will automatically code itself to non-flexible, i.e. "time- or distance-dependent".
If engine oil conforming to VW-norm was used at inspection service for vehicles with "LongLife Service"(PR-number QG 1), Service Reminder Indicator (SRI) must not be reset with the adjustment buttons for odometer and clock at instrument panel insert. Reason: if the service interval display is reset using the distance and time adjusting button in the instrument cluster, the cluster will automatically code itself to non-flexible, i.e. "time- or distance-dependent".
Vehicles with LongLife service (PR Number QG 1) that have an oil change service performed after approximately 15,000 km or 12 months do not need the service interval display recoded to non-flexible. Reason: this ensures that these vehicles return to the normal LongLife Service interval.

Reset the display as follows:
- Turn off ignition.

- Press and hold the button -1- next to the speedometer.
- Switch the ignition on.

The message "service" or "SERVICE NOW" appears in the display -1- or -2- of the instrument panel insert (depending on the vehicle equipment).
1 - Display unit in center of instrument cluster
2 - Display unit speedometer gauge

- Release the button -1-.

- Turn the selecting button -1- next to the tachometer to the right.

The indicated service is reset and the readout in the odometer display and/or middle display goes to normal status.

- Turn off ignition.
