Braking system, bleeding

Bleeding brake system is described for brake filler and bleeder unit VAS 5234.
^ Bleeding the braking system on vehicles with ABS is carried out as for vehicles with conventional braking systems.
^ Only use new brake fluid conforming to US standard FMVSS 116 DOT 4.
^ Genuine VW brake fluid conforms to this specification.
^ Brake fluid is poisonous. Due to its corrosive effect brake fluid must not come into contact with paint.
^ Brake fluid is hygroscopic, which means it absorbs moisture from the ambient air and should always be stored in air tight containers.
^ Rinse off spillages, by using plenty of water.

Particularities of vehicles with ABS/EDL/ASR/ESP
To bleed the brake system on vehicles with ABS/EDL/ASR/ESP Bosch 5.3, the hydraulic pump for traction control must first be actuated via basic setting, display group number 2
Perform base setting in "Guided Fault Finding" with vehicle diagnostic, test and information system VAS 5051.

For this, use the Go to button in the "Functions/Component selection".

The hydraulic pump for traction control is not equipped on vehicles with ABS/EDL/ASR/ESP Bosch 5.7.

To bleed the hydraulic unit, a pressure of at least 2 bar is necessary.
