Control Module For High Intensity Gas Discharge (HID) Lamp -J343- / -J344-, Removing And Installing

Removing

WARNING:
- HIGH VOLTAGE.
- Always disconnect negative (-) battery terminal prior to servicing any parts of the HID lamp system marked with the yellow "HIGH VOLTAGE!" symbol.
- After disconnecting battery, briefly turn headlights on and off in order discharge any residual voltage.
- The control modules for HID lamps must never be operated (headlights turned on) without an HID lamp.
- HID bulbs operate at high voltages and temperatures and must only be operated (headlights turned on) when installed in the headlight housing.
- Internal pressure of HID glass bulb may exceed 10 bar
.
- The physical and mechanical properties of HID bulbs are very sensitive. Always wear safety glasses when removing and installing HID bulb

- Remove headlight assembly.







- Disconnect electrical connector -5-
- Remove screw -4-.
- Unclip retainer -7- and pull out control module -6-.
- Remove three screws -arrow- and remove large cover cap -1-







- Turn connector coupling -1- counterclockwise 90 degrees and pull off.
- Pull electrical harness from control module to HID lamp out from headlight housing.

Installing
Install in reverse order of removal.
- Check function of headlight (HID lamp).
- Bring headlight into basic setting
See VAS 5051 Vehicle Diagnostic Testing and Information System or VAS 5052 Vehicle Diagnostic and Service System in mode "Guided Fault Finding".
- Check headlight aim.
