^ VAG1332 torque wrench (40 to 200 Nm)
^ Drill with plastic brush attachment
^ D 176 404 A2 silicon sealant
^ Scraping tool

Removing
- Remove ribbed belt and tensioner, Refer to Drive Belts, Mounts, Brackets and Accessories.
- Toothed belt, removing, Refer to Timing Belt.

- Unbolt stop -1- (arrows).

- Remove crankshaft toothed belt gear. Secure toothed belt gear using 3415 spur belt spreading.
- Drain engine oil.
- Remove oil pan, Refer to Engine Lubrication.
- Unscrew front sealing flange.
- Remove sealing flange, if necessary tap lightly with rubber hammer to remove.
- Remove any remaining sealant from cylinder block using a scraping tool.
- Cover oil seal with a clean rag.

- Using rotating plastic brush, remove any remaining sealant from sealing flange (wear protective glasses).
- Clean sealing surfaces so they are completely free of any oil or grease.

Installing

Note: The sealing flange must be installed and tightened within 5 minutes after application of silicon sealant.

- Cut tube nozzle at front marking (nozzle approximately 3 mm).
- Apply silicon sealant to clean sealing surfaces of sealing flange as shown. Sealant bead must:
^ Thickness of sealant bead (arrows): 2 to 3 mm

Notes:
^ Cover sealing ring using a clean rag before applying sealant bead.
^ Sealant bead must not be thicker than specified. Otherwise, excess sealant could get into oil pan and clog oil intake pipe strainer.

- Position sealing flange immediately and lightly tighten all bolts.

Note: To position sealing flange with sealing ring installed, use T1005311 guide sleeve.

- Tighten mounting bolts of sealing flange diagonally. Tightening torque: 15 Nm
- Remove excessive sealant.
- Install oil pan, Refer to Engine Lubrication.

Note: After installing, allow sealant to dry for approximately 30 minutes. Allow sealant to dry before adding engine oil.

- Install toothed belt gear-crankshaft using a new bolt and secure with 3415 retainer. Tightening torque: 90 Nm + 1/4 turns (90°) turn.

Note: Threads and collar must be completely free of oil and grease.

- Install torque support stop. Tightening torque: 30 Nm

How to install toothed belt and adjust valve timing, Refer to Timing Belt.
- Install ribbed belt and tensioner, Refer to Drive Belts, Mounts, Brackets and Accessories.
