Camshaft oil seals, replacing
Remove oil seal at camshaft gear
Special tools and equipment
^ 2085 seal puller
^ 3036 retainer
^ T10071 pulling device
^ VAG1331 torque wrench (5 to 50 Nm)
^ VAG1332 torque wrench (40 to 200 Nm)
- Bring the lock carrier into service position: [1][2]Procedures
- Remove upper portion of toothed belt guard.
- Bring camshaft gear to marking for TDC cylinder 1 by turning crankshaft. Marking on camshaft gear must be flush with marking on cylinder head cover.
- Loosen tensioner and lift toothed belt from camshaft gear.
- Turn crankshaft back slightly.
- Remove camshaft gear. To loosen bolt, counterhold camshaft gear using 3036 retainer.
- Insert camshaft gear retaining bolt (arrow) into camshaft by hand to stop to guide 2085 Seal Puller.
- Unscrew inner portion of 2085 seal remover two rotations (approximately 3 mm) from outer portion and secure with knurled-head screw.
- Grease threaded head of 2085 seal puller, position and with forced pressure screw into oil seal as far as possible.
- Loosen knurled bolt and turn inner part against crankshaft until O-ring is removed.
Installing
Note: Introduction of PTFE-oil seals (identification: without annular spring, sealing lip has a wider design). The sealing lip of these oil seals may not be oiled or greased.
- Remove oil residue at camshaft pin using a clean rag.
- Set T10071/1 on crankshaft pin.
- Slide sealing ring over guide sleeve onto crankshaft pin.
- Remove guide sleeve.
- Press in sealing ring until stop using T10071/3 thrust sleeve. Use T10071/4 bolt for this.
The rest of the installation follows the reverse of the removal procedures.
