ABS/EDL/ASR/ESP Bosch 5.3, From M.Y. 2000

From m.y. 2000: hydraulic unit, brake servo/brake master cylinder, assembly overview

Vehicles from vehicle identity No. 3B Y 000 001
1 - Tandem brake servo
^ On gasoline engines the vacuum required is taken from the intake manifold.
^ From m.y. 2001, vehicles with a gasoline engine and automatic transmission are equipped with a brake vacuum pump, Refer to Vacuum Pump, Brakes, Service and Repair
^ On Diesel engines an exhauster is installed to create the required vacuum.
^ Functional check
- With engine switched off, depress brake pedal firmly several times (to exhaust the vacuum in the unit).
- Depress brake pedal with average foot pressure, hold and start engine. If the servo module is working properly, the pedal will drop slightly (servo assistance becomes effective).
- If faulty replace complete.
- Removing and installing, Refer to Vacuum Pump, Brakes, Service and Repair
