Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
^ Torque wrench V.A.G 1331
^ Torque wrench V.A.G 1410
^ Brake pedal depressor V.A.G 1869/2
Note:
^ Install complete repair kit
^ After replacing brake pads, depress brake pedal firmly several times with vehicle stationary so that the brake pads are properly seated in their normal operating position.
^ To extract brake fluid from the brake fluid reservoir, use a bleeder bottle that only comes into contact with brake fluid. Brake fluid is poisonous and must never be extracted by mouth using a hose!
^ Torque specification for wheel bolts.
1 - Brake hose
^ Do not disconnect brake hose when changing brake pads
2 - Cap
^ Remove
3 - Guide pins, 25 Nm
4 - Brake line, 15 Nm
^ Install into brake caliper housing
^ Install together with brake hose, counter hold on brake hose hex.
^ Make sure that lugs are properly seated in grooves in bracket.

^ Thickness 14 mm not including backing plate
^ Checking thickness Repair Manual, Maintenance
^ When worn always replace both sides
^ Wear limit: 2 mm not including backing plate
Note:
^ The inner surface (with tension spring) is indicated by an arrow. The arrow must point in the direction of the brake rotor rotation when driving forward. If improperly installed, noises could result.
^ The backing plate of the outer brake pad is equipped with an adhesive film. Peel off the protective foil before installing.
9 - Retaining spring
^ Insert into both holes of the brake caliper housing
Note: After installing in both holes, the retaining spring must be pressed under the brake carrier. If improperly installed, the wear of the outer brake pad cannot be adjusted, thereby increasing brake pedal travel.
