Brake Rotor/Disc: Service and Repair

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
^ Torque wrench V.A.G 1331
^ Torque wrench V.A.G 1332

^ Brake pedal loading device V.A.G 1869/2
Rear wheel brake with automatic adjustment
1 - Self-locking hex bolt, 35 Nm
^ Always replace
^ When loosening and tightening counter hold on guide pin
2 - Brake pads
^ Thickness 12 mm not including backing plate
^ Wear limit: 2 mm not including backing plate
^ When worn always replace both sides
3 - Brake caliper
^ Do not disconnect brake hose when changing brake pads
Removing:
^ Install brake pedal loading device V.A.G 1869/2
Installing:
^ Remove brake pedal loading device V.A.G 1869/2
^ After installation or replacement the brake cable must be adjusted first.
4 - Brake disc
^ Vented brake disc for vehicles with 16" wheel, All Wheel Drive (AWD): 256 mm diameter
^ Vented brake disc for vehicles with 16/17" wheels, All Wheel Drive (AWD): 269 mm diameter
^ Brake disc thickness: 22 mm
^ Wear limit: 20 mm
^ When worn always replace both sides
^ Remove brake caliper prior to removing
5 - Brake disc
^ Brake disc for vehicles with 15" and 16" wheels, Front Wheel Drive (FWD): 245 mm diameter
^ Brake disc for vehicles with 15" suspension, All Wheel Drive (AWD): 255 mm diameter
^ Brake disc thickness: 10 mm
^ Wear limit: 8 mm
^ When worn always replace both sides
^ Remove brake caliper prior to removing
6 - Socket head bolt, 95 Nm
7 - Brake carrier with guide pins and protective cap
^ Supplied as replacement part assembled with sufficient grease on guide pins
^ If protective caps or guide pins are damaged use repair kit. Use grease packet supplied to lubricate guide pins.
8 - Brake hose/brake tube
^ With banjo bolt and seals
^ Torque specification for banjo bolt at brake caliper with aluminum gasket (silver) 45 Nm
^ Torque specification for banjo bolt at brake caliper with titanium gasket (black) 38 Nm
^ Do not disconnect brake hose when changing brake pads
