ABS System Components on Rear Axle, Removing and Installing (Vehicles With All Wheel Drive (AWD))



ABS system components on rear axle, removing and installing (vehicles with all wheel drive (AWD))





1 - Drive axle with rotor
^ Check rotor for contamination and damage

2 - ABS wheel speed sensor
^ Before inserting sensor, clean inner surface of mounting hole and coat with grease G 000 650
^ Replacing

3 - Seal sleeve

4 - Clamping sleeve
^ Always replace
^ Left and right, identical
^ Before inserting into wheel bearing housing, coat circumference with grease G 000 650
^ Press into wheel bearing housing onto stop

5 - Wheel bearing/hub unit

6 - Hex bolt

Speed sensor on rear axle, removing and installing (vehicles with all wheel drive)

Removing
- Remove rear seat bench.
- Remove lower side trim from C-pillar.





- Remove screws - arrows - from side trim and remove.





- Remove screw - arrow - from side trim.
- Lift side trim and open cable ties that lie beneath it.





- Disconnect ABS wheel speed sensor harness connector - arrow A - and press out the grommet - arrow B -.
- Loosen wheel bolts.
- Raise vehicle.
- Remove wheel.
- Remove ABS wheel speed sensor from wheel bearing housing.





- Unclip ABS wheel speed sensor wiring from the retainers - arrows -.





- Remove ABS wheel speed sensor wiring - arrows - from retainer - 1 -.

Installing
- Before installing new ABS wheel speed sensor, replace the clamping sleeve.
- Before inserting ABS wheel speed sensor, clean hole inner surface and coat speed sensor all-round with grease G 000 650.
- Press ABS wheel speed sensor into wheel bearing housing by hand.

Rotor on rear axle, checking, removing and installing
- Raise vehicle.
- Remove wheel.
- Remove ABS wheel speed sensor from wheel bearing housing.
- Check rotor for contamination and damage.
- If rotor is damaged, remove drive axle and rotor and replace outer constant velocity joint.
