ABS System Components on Front Axle, Removing and Installing



ABS system components on front axle, removing and installing

Note: Removing and installing ABS components is the same for all brake calipers.





1 - ABS wheel speed sensor
^ Before inserting sensor, clean inner surface of hole and coat with grease G 000 650
^ Always replace

2 - Drive axle with rotor
^ Check rotor for contamination and damage

3 - Bolt.

4 - Clamping sleeve
^ Always replace
^ Left and right side, identical
^ Before inserting into wheel bearing housing, coat circumference with grease G 000 650
^ Press into wheel bearing housing onto stop

5 - Seal sleeve

Speed sensor on front axle, removing and installing

Removing
- Loosen wheel bolts.
- Raise vehicle.
- Remove wheel.





- Remove grommet - 1 - from wheel bearing housing.
- Disconnect ABS wheel speed sensor connector - 2 -.
- Disconnect ABS wheel speed sensor wiring from retainers - arrows -.





- For vehicles with brake wear pad indicator, disconnect connector - 1 -.
- Lift locking tab slightly on the lower part of connector - 2 - and turn 90°.
- Pull lower part of the connector from the bracket.
- Remove ABS speed sensor from wheel bearing housing.

Installing
- Before inserting speed sensor, clean hole inner surface and coat speed sensor all-around with Polycarbamide grease G 000 650.
- Install ABS wheel speed sensor.
- Snap ABS wheel speed sensor wiring into brackets and insert grommet into wheel bearing housing.
- Insert brake wear indicator connector into bracket on the brake caliper.

The brake lining wear indicator wiring must be routed between the brake carrier and the brake tube.
- Turn the steering completely left and right, making sure that the speed sensor wiring has sufficient clearance.

Rotor on front axle, checking, removing and installing
- Raise vehicle.
- Remove wheel.
- Disconnect ABS wheel speed sensor from wheel bearing housing.
- Turn the drive axle to check the rotor for contamination and damage.
- If rotor is damaged, remove drive axle and rotor and replace the outer constant velocity joint.
