Right Flange Shaft Oil Seal, Removing
Right flange shaft oil seal, removing, 02J, 5 Spd. M/T
Special tools and equipment:
- Seal and sleeve are driven out in two pieces
- 3106 Drift
- 3253/2 Assembly tool
- V.A.G 1331 Torque wrench
Special tools and equipment:
Seal and sleeve are driven out in one piece
- T10148 Press piece
- 3066 Assembly device
- VW 771 Multi-purpose tool
- VW 771/37 Puller hooks
- V.A.G 1331 Torque wrench
Removing
- Remove center and left noise insulation tray under engine/transmission if installed.
- Turn steering to right onto full lock stop
- Remove drive shaft protective cover from engine if installed
- Disconnect drive shaft -1- from flange shaft.
- Tie-up drive shaft as high as possible. Do not damage paint on drive shaft.
- Place container under transmission and engine.
- Disconnect oil return line for turbocharger from engine, if installed (arrow).
- Remove flange shaft securing bolts by screwing two bolts into flange and counterhold flange shaft using a lever.
- Remove flange shaft with spring.
Seal and sleeve are driven out in two pieces:
- Pry seal with a screw driver -A-. To do this, support the screw driver on the assembly tool 3253/2.
Note: Do not damage sleeve, otherwise leaks will occur.
- Replace sleeve if damaged.
- Seal and sleeve are driven out in one piece:
- Pull out seal and sleeve at the same time.
- The inner diameter of the sleeve has a pad.
- Install the puller hook VW 771/37 directly behind the pad in the sleeve.
- Use force to press the puller hook VW 771/37 in the sleeve during the driving out sequence.
Installing
Seal and sleeve are driven out in two pieces:
- Do not bend seal when driving new seal into sleeve onto stop.
- Fill space between sealing lip and dust lip with sealing grease G052 128 A1.
- Insert flange shaft.
Seal and sleeve are driven out in one piece:
- Clean the sitting place of seal in transmission.
- Pull seal and sleeve together.
A - Turn the spindle from the assembly device 3066 in the threaded piece from the differential.
B - Nut M12
- Pull in seal with sleeve using press piece T10148 onto stop by turning the nut -B-.
- Fill space between sealing lip and dust lip with sealing grease G052 128 A1.
- Insert flange shaft.
Continued for all vehicles
- Install flange shaft with cone head bolt and tighten to prescribed torque.
- Disconnect oil return line for turbocharger from engine, if installed (arrow).
- Connect drive shaft -1- to flange shaft.
- Screw drive shaft protective cover if installed
- Screw protective cover for drive shaft if installed.
- Top off transmission oil.
- Install sound insulation tray.
Tightening torque:
- Flange shaft to transmission (conical head bolt): 25 Nm
