Triple roller joint, disassembling and assembling
Disassembling
- Open clamp of joint piece and slide back CV joint boot.
- Bend open metal tabs of cover using a slot-head screwdriver and pry off cover.
- Mark installation position of parts 1 through 3 with lines.
- If they are not marked and are not re-installed in their previously installed positions, noises may occur later during driving operation.
- A water-proof felt pen is well-suited for marking.

- Remove round seal - arrow - from groove.
- Remove circlip - arrow -.
- Secure joint piece and remove drive axle from vise.
- Insert drive axle in vise.
- Secure drive axle then press off triple roller star from drive axle.
- Remove triple roller star with rollers and set aside on a clean surface.
- Pull off joint piece from shaft.
- Pull off CV boot from shafts.
- Clean shaft and joint piece.
Assembling
- Slide CV boot onto shaft.
- Slide joint piece onto shaft.
Mount triple roller star.
- Chamfer on star faces toward shaft, it facilitates assembly.
- Place triple roller stars on shaft according to markings and press on until impact.
- Insert securing ring, be sure to fit properly.
- Slide joint piece over rollers and secure.
- Pack half of specified drive axle grease from repair kit into triple roller joint.
- Pack other half of specified drive axle grease from repair kit into rear side of triple roller joint.
- Install CV boot.
- The bead in CV boot must engage in joint piece groove.
- Remove drive axle from vise and clamp joint piece in.
- Insert new sealing ring - arrow - from repair kit into groove.
- Install new cover on to joint piece, position tabs on straight surfaces of joint piece - arrow -.
- Holes from cover and from joint piece must line up.
- Mount clamp.
Note: Position the crimping tab - arrow A - of the clamp between mounting flanges of joint piece - arrows B -. This will facilitate threading the socket head bolts during installation of the drive axle.
- Tighten clamp using Hose Clamp Pliers V.A.G 1275.
