Over-center spring, removing and installing, 02J, 5 Spd. M/T

Special tools and equipment

T10111 Retaining clamp:

Removing
- Remove driver's side lower cover





- Install retaining clamp T10111 into over-center spring from the right side.
- Make sure that the retaining clamp is placed correctly on the over-center spring:
1 - The retaining clamp claws have to contact with the over-center spring rear part exactly over the segment -1-.
2- Press the clutch pedal lightly in direction of bulkhead.
- Install the retaining clamp lug -2- in the recesses of the over-center spring.
- Now press the clutch pedal to the bulkhead until the over-center spring can be removed from the mounting bracket mountings and the clutch pedal.
- Bring clutch pedal to rest position.





- Turn over-center spring with the retaining clamp T10111 in direction of arrow -A- and remove downward in direction of arrow -B- when doing this.

Installing
- Pull clutch pedal into passenger compartment.





- Install over-center spring together with retaining clamp T10111 upward in direction of arrow -A- in mounting bracket and turn in arrow direction -B-.





- Place the over-center spring first in the rear mounting -arrow A-.
- Press clutch pedal to bulkhead, until the over-center spring contacts the mounting lug -arrow B- of the clutch pedal.
- Take out retaining clamp while bringing clutch pedal to rest position.
- Install driver's side lower cover.
