Clutch Slave Cylinder: Service and Repair



Clutch slave cylinder, removing and installing, 02M, 5 and 6 Spd. M/T

Special tools and equipment

V.A.G 1331 Torque wrench:




VAS 5234 brake filler and bleeder unit:





Removing
- Check whether a coded radio is fitted. If so, obtain anti-theft coding.
- With ignition switched off disconnect battery ground strap.
- Place a sufficiently large lint-free cloth under clutch slave cylinder.





- Fully remove retaining clip -A-, which secures pipe/hose, from slave cylinder.
- Remove pipe/hose assembly from housing -C- in transmission.
- Separate pipe/hose assembly -B- from cylinder and seal openings.
- Remove screws from slave cylinder (arrows) and remove cylinder.

Installing
- Installation is performed in the reverse sequence. When installing note the following:
- Lubricate end of plunger with lubricating grease MoS2.





- Screw clutch slave cylinder to transmission (arrows).
- Fit pipe/hose assembly -B- fully into slave cylinder.
- Install clip -A-.
- Press pipe/hose assembly into housing -C- in transmission.
- After installing slave cylinder, bleed clutch system.
