Interior - Console Arm Rest Lid Latch Broken

Armrest Lid, Replacing Broken Latch Release Mechanism

Model(s):
Golf, Jetta, New Beetle with Armrest > 2003
Passat with Armrest > 2005

Supersedes T.B. Group 68 Number 02-01 Dated Feb. 14, 2002 due to additional model years, Labor Operation and Time Units change.

Condition





- Armrest Lid latch release mechanism (arrow) broken.

Armrest lid, removing

DO NOT replace armrest or armrest lid for this condition, replace lid latch release as follows:





- Open armrest lid -1- approx. 60 degrees.

- Hold armrest lid -1- firmly.

- Press armrest lid base -A- with right hand in direction of arrow (see figure) and with left hand rotate armrest lid top end -B- in direction of arrow until lid has been released from armrest.

With armrest lid removed:

- Remove remaining pieces of latch release mechanism.

Tip:





- It may be necessary to turn armrest lid over and shake until broken pivot piece is visible in latch pivot opening (arrows), then remove remaining (broken) pivot piece with needle nosed pliers.

Latch release mechanism, installing





- Ensure that spring fits over extrusion (arrow) when installing new release mechanism.

- Pivots snap into rectangular openings in lid as shown.

Armrest lid, installing





- With armrest lid -1- at approx. 60 degrees to armrest:

- Insert armrest lid into armrest pivot point at -A-.

- While pressing armrest lid into pivot with right hand in direction of arrow, rotate armrest lid at top end -B- in direction of arrow until lid pivot has been reinstalled into armrest.

- Check that armrest lid closes and latch operates correctly.
