Springs/shock absorbers, removing and installing

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Torque wrench V.A.G 1332:




Spring compressor V.A.G 1752:





- Spring bracket V.A.G 1752/3
- Adapter V.A.G 1752/9

Removing spring





- Insert spring tensioner - 1 -.
- Compress coil spring far enough until it can be removed.
- Remove spring.

Installing spring
- Check whether zinc rest is damaged.
- Replace if necessary.
- Install spring together with spring rest.
- Release tension on spring and remove spring tensioner.

Note installation position.





- The spring start - arrow - must touch top of spring seat.

Removing shock absorber
- Coil spring must be removed beforehand
- Remove bolts - 1 - while vehicle stands on wheels. If necessary, lift vehicle until bolts are accessible.





- Remove shock absorber hex bolt - 1 - from axle.
- For greater clarity, the illustration shows the procedure without the wheel.
- Remove shock absorber.

Installing shock absorber
- Installation is in reverse order of removal.
- Tightening torques go to Tightening torques of rear axle
