Control Arm, Removing and Installing



Control arm, removing and installing

Torque wrench V.A.G 1332:





Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Removing
- Raise vehicle.
- Remove wheel.





- Remove sound insulation pan - arrows -.





- Remove left sound insulation - arrows -.

Vehicles with TDI engine
- Remove charge air pipe between charge air cooler and turbocharger.

Continued for all vehicles
- Remove right sound insulation panel.
- To remove left control arm, coupling rod for Left Front Level Control System Sensor G78 must be unscrewed from control arm bracket Left Front Level Control System Sensor G78 on front axle.

Vehicles with automatic transmission





- Remove bolts - arrows -.

Continued for all vehicles





- If control arm is not to be replaced:
- Mark installation position of bolts - arrows - for ball joint - 1 - on control arm - 2 -
- Mark installation position of ball joint - 1 - to control arm - 2 -
- Remove drive axle from flange shaft/transmission.
- Pull out wheel bearing housing with ball joint from control arm.





- Remove hex bolt - 3 - on control arm.
- Remove hex bolts - 1 - and - 2- and remove control arm.

Vehicles with automatic transmission
- Press engine/transmission subframe forward e.g. using a tire iron.
- Remove hex bolt - 1 - and remove control arm.

Installing
- Installation is in reverse order of removal. Note the following:
- If control arm was not replaced, tighten bolts and ball joint to old impression/marking.
- Install wheel and tighten.
