Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes



Engine Control Module Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Memory, Reading and Erasing

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required







- Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System VAS5051
- Diagnosis cable VAS5051/5A or VAS5051/6A

Work sequence
- Connect Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System VAS5051 as follows:







- Connect connector of diagnosis cable VAS5051/5A or VAS5051/6A to Data Link Connector (DLC).
- Start engine and run at idling speed.

Only when engine does not start:
- Switch ignition on.

Select operating mode:
- Press button on display for 'Vehicle self-diagnosis".

Select vehicle system:
- Press button "01-Engine electronics" on display.

The control module identification and coding are indicated on the display.

NOTE: A print-out can be made if needed. On the display, press the button "Print".

Select diagnostic function:
- Press button "02 - Read fault memory" on display.
- If no fault is stored in engine control module "0 fault(s) detected" is displayed.
- If faults are stored in the engine control module, these are shown on the display.
- Press <- key.
- Press button "05 - Erase fault memory" on display.
- Press function "06 - End output".
- If fault (DTC) memory was erased, readiness code must be generated again.
