Multi-Function Transmission Range (TR) Switch, Replacing

Recommended special tools and equipment







- V.A.G 1331 Torque wrench (5 to 50 Nm)







- T10173 Setting gauge (vehicles with 09G transmission)

Requirements

Vehicles with 01 M transmission
- Selector lever must be in -P- position.

Vehicles with 09G transmission
- Selector lever must be in -N- position.

Continued for all vehicles
- Parking brake must be engaged or else daylight driving lights will be switched on.
- Ignition switched off.

Replace Multi-Function Transmission Range (TR) switch -F125-
- Vehicles with 01 M transmission.
- Vehicles with 09G transmission.

Replacing Multi-Function Transmission Range (TR) switch -F125- (vehicles with 01 M transmission)

NOTE: Multi-function switch is located at rear on transmission.







- Disconnect connector from Multi-Function Transmission Range (TR) switch -F125-
- Remove mounting bolt and retainer.
- Remove Multi-Function Transmission Range (TR) switch.
- Replace O-ring.

Installation is performed in reverse order of removal.
- Tighten bolt to 10 Nm.
- Erase DTC memory of Transmission Control Module (TCM). Diagnostic mode 4: Reset/erase diagnostic data.
- Generate readiness code.

Replacing Multi-Function Transmission Range (TR) switch -F125- (vehicles with 09G transmission)

Removing
- Remove air filter housing.







- Pry off selector lever cable -1- from shift rod -4- using an open-end wrench 10 mm.
- Compress locking mechanism (arrows) and pull selector lever cable out of mounting bracket.
- Disconnect connector -2- from Multi-Function Transmission Range (TR) switch -F125-







- Remove mounting nut -1-
- Remove compression spring -2- and lever -3- from shift rod -4-.
- Carefully bend locking washer hooks -2- back using a screwdriver.

NOTE: If a hook breaks off, replace locking washer.







- Remove mounting nut -1-
- Remove mounting bolts -5-.
- Remove Multi-Function Transmission Range (TR) switch -F125- -4- with washer -3- and locking washer from shift rod -6-

Installing and adjusting







- Connect Multi-Function Transmission Range (TR) switch -F125- (-4-) to shift rod -6-
- Screw in mounting bolts -5- for multi-function switch hand-tight.







- Place setting gauge T10173 on shift rod -2-
- Rotate Multi-Function Transmission Range (TR) Switch -1- until tab on connector engages in groove of adjustment tool.
- Fasten setting gauge T10173 onto shift rod -2- using bolt -3-.
- Tighten mounting bolts (arrows) of Multi-Function Transmission Range (TR) switch.

Tightening torque: 6 Nm

- Remove adjustment tool T10173 from shift rod.

Rest of installation is performed in reverse order of removal.
- Erase DTC memory of Transmission Control Module (TCM). Diagnostic mode 4: Reset/erase diagnostic data.
- Generate readiness code.
