Compression Check: Testing and Inspection
Compression, checking
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
^ Spark plug wrench 3122B
^ Assembly tool T10112
^ Torque wrench V.A.G1331
^ Compression tester V.A.G1763
Requirements
^ Coolant temperature must be at least 30° C
^ Voltage supply OK
Work sequence
- Pull fuse No. 32 out of fuse holder.
Note:
^ Removing fuse 32 interrupts the voltage supply to the injectors.
- Remove engine cover.
- Disconnect connector from ignition coils with output stages - arrow -.
- Disconnect connectors from outer injectors.
- Disconnect spark plug connectors with assembly tool T10112.
- Remove spark plugs with spark plug wrench 3122B.
- Check compression with compression tester V.A.G1763 and adapter V.A.G1763/6.
Note:
^ Using the compression tester Operating instructions.
- Have a second technician operate starter (for vehicles with a throttle cable, also push down accelerator pedal completely).
- Operate starter until tester shows no further pressure increase.
Compression pressures
^ New: 10 to 13 bar
^ Wear limit: 7.5 bar
^ Permissible difference between all cylinders: 3 bar
- Read Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) memory of engine control module, correct faults and then erase DTC memory.
