Drive Belt: Testing and Inspection
Ribbed Belt, Checking
- Lift vehicle.
- Remove engine compartment cover, engine side
- Remove bolt/screw -1-.
- Release clips -2-.
- Take cover out of retainers -3-.
NOTE: Do not reuse the clips, renew clips each time cover is removed.
- Crank engine by hand at vibration dampener/pulley -arrow-. Check ribbed ribbed belt for:
- Sub-surface cracks (cracks, core ruptures, cross sectional breaks)
- Layer separation (top layer, cord strands)
- Base break-up
- Fraying of cord strands
- Flank wear (material wear, frayed flanks, flank brittleness -glassy flanks-, surface cracks)
- Traces of oil and grease
