Water Pump: Service and Repair
Coolant pump, removing and installing
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
^ Refractometer T10007
^ Drip tray V.A.G 1306
^ Torque wrench V.A.G 1331
^ Spring-type clip pliers VAS5024
Note:
^ Always replace seals and gaskets.
^ The lower part of the toothed belt guard can remain installed.
^ The toothed belt remains in position on the crankshaft toothed belt pulley.
^ Cover toothed belt with a cloth to protect it from coolant before removing coolant pump.
Removing
- Drain coolant.
- Remove ribbed belt.
- Remove tensioning element for poly V-belt.
- Remove upper and middle part of toothed belt guard.
- Relieve tension on toothed belt and take toothed belt off coolant pump toothed belt pulley Toothed belt, removing, installing and tensioning.
- Remove securing bolt - 1 - from rear toothed belt guard - 2 -.
- Unscrew securing bolts - 5 - for coolant pump and remove coolant pump - 4 -.
Installing
Installation is performed in the reverse order. When installing, note the following:
- Moisten new O-ring - 3 - with coolant.
- Insert coolant pump - 4 -, with sealing plug in housing facing down, in cylinder block and tighten securing bolts.
- Tightening torque: 15 Nm
- Tighten securing bolt - 1 - for rear toothed belt guard - 2 - on cylinder head.
- Tightening torque: 20 Nm
- Install and tension toothed belt.
- Install upper and center sections of toothed belt guard.
- Install ribbed belt tensioning element.
- Tightening torque: 25 Nm
- Install Poly V-belt.
- Fill with coolant.
