Radiator: Service and Repair
Radiator, removing and installing
Additional information and assembly work on models with air conditioning
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
^ Refractometer T10007
^ Drip tray V.A.G 1306
^ Torque wrench V.A.G 1331
^ Spring-type clip pliers VAS5024
Removing
- Drain coolant.
- Remove front end components as required.
- Pull coolant hoses off radiator.
- Disconnect connectors from thermal switch and radiator coolant fan.
- Remove lock carrier. [1][2]Procedures
- Remove radiator securing bolts and take out radiator.
Vehicles with air conditioning
- Note additional information and removal work.
Installing
Installation is performed in the reverse order. When installing, note the following:
- Fill with coolant.

CAUTION!
The air condition system refrigerant circuit must not be opened.
Note:
^ To prevent damage to the condenser and the refrigerant lines/hoses, ensure that the lines and hoses are not stretched, kinked or bent.
- Release refrigerant lines/hoses from retainers/clamps if necessary.
- Secure radiator to body before removing lock carrier.
- Remove condenser from radiator.
- To remove radiator, secure condenser to body.
