Brake booster/Brake master cylinder, assembly overview
Note:
^ The complete brake master cylinder and brake booster can be replaced independently.
Brake booster/Brake master cylinder, assembly overview:
1 - Brake booster
^ For gasoline engines, the required vacuum is taken from the intake manifold.
^ On Diesel engines a vacuum pump is installed to create the required vacuum.
^ Function check
^ With engine switched off, depress brake pedal firmly several times (This decreases the vacuum in the device).
^ Now depress the brake pedal with medium force and hold in this position and start the engine. If the booster unit is working properly, the pedal will be felt to give slightly under foot (booster assistance becomes effective).
^ If faulty replace complete.
^ Non-return valve (in vacuum hose)
- Functional check
^ Separate from brake pedal
2 - Filler cap
3 - Brake fluid reservoir
4 - Sealing plugs
^ Moisten with brake fluid and press in the brake master cylinder
5 - Holding pin
^ Lead through the brake master cylinder
6 - Brake master cylinder
^ Can not be repaired. replace completely if it malfunctions.
7 - Self-locking hex nut, 20 Nm
8 - Heat shield
9 - Self-locking hex nut, 20 Nm
10 - Oil seal
^ Always replace
11 - Sealing plugs
12 - Vacuum hose
^ Place into brake booster
13 - Seal
^ For brake booster
14 - Self-locking hex nut, 20 Nm
15 - Boots
^ Make sure it seats correctly, danger of suction noises
