Rear brake caliper, assembly overview
Note:
^ When carrying out repair install all parts supplied in repair kit.
^ New brake calipers are filled with brake fluid and are pre-bled.
^ Apply a thin coating of assembly lubricant G 052 150 A2 to brake cylinders, pistons and seals.
^ When carrying out repairs it is essential to appropriately pre-bleed the brake calipers (without brake pads) before installing in vehicle.
Rear brake caliper, assembly overview:
1 - Self-locking hex nut, 35 Nm
^ Always replace
^ When loosening and tightening counter-hold on guide pin
2 - Bleeder valve
^ Apply a very thin coating of assembly lubricant G 052 150 A2 to threads before installing
3 - Dust cap
4 - Guide pins
^ Grease before installing protective seal
5 - Protective seal
^ Pull onto brake carrier and guide pin
6 - Brake carrier with guide pins and protective seal
^ Supplied as replacement part assembled with sufficient grease on guide pins
^ If protective seals or guide pins are damaged install new ones from repair kit. Use grease packet supplied to lubricate guide pins
7 - Protective seal
^ Pull outer sealing lip onto piston
8 - Piston with automatic adjustment
^ Apply a very thin coating of assembly lubricant G 052 150 A2 to piston before inserting
9 - Seal
10 - Brake caliper housing with lever for parking brake cable
^ If a leak exists at the parking brake cable lever renew brake caliper housing
^ After repairing pre-bleed brake caliper housing

Rear brake caliper piston, removing and installing
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
^ Trim removal wedge 3409
^ Brake piston reset tool T10165
Removing
- Remove piston from brake caliper housing by turning knurled wheel counter-clockwise.
Note:
^ Install resetting extracting tool T10165 - 1 - so that the collar - arrow - of the tool is seated before the piston.
^ If the piston moves too heavily, an open-end spanner SW 13 can be placed on the spanner surfaces provided - arrow A -.
- Remove seal using trim removal wedge 3409.
Installing
- The surface of the piston and seal must only be cleaned with methylated spirit and then dried.
- Apply a very thin coating of assembly lubricant G 052 150 A2 to piston and seal before fitting.
- Insert seal into brake caliper housing.
- Place protective seal with outer sealing lip on the piston
- Using trim removal wedge 3409, insert inner sealing lip into groove in cylinder.
Note:
^ When doing this hold piston in front of caliper housing.
- Screw piston into housing by turning knurled wheel clockwise.
Note:
^ Place resetting extracting tool T10165 - 1 - so that the shoulder - arrow - of the tool is lying on the brake caliper.
^ If piston is difficult to move, use a 13 mm AF open end wrench on flats - arrow A - provided for this purpose.
^ If the piston is pushed back with a piston resetting tool or by operating the foot brake the automatic adjustment in the brake caliper will be destroyed.
- Install brake pads.
Pre-bleeding brake caliper
- Open bleeder valve - arrow A - and using a standard bleeder bottle, fill with brake fluid until bubble free brake fluid flows from the threaded hole - arrow B - (brake hose connection). Close bleeder valve.
Note:
^ Position brake caliper as illustrated to pre-bleed.
