FS III brake caliper, assembly overview
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
^ Torque wrench V.A.G1331
^ Torque wrench V.A.G1410
^ Brake pedal depressor V.A.G1869/2 or equivalent
Note:
^ After each brake pad change firmly depress brake pedal several times with vehicle stationary, so the brake pads are properly seated in their normal operating position.
^ To draw off brake fluid from the reservoir, use a bleeder bottle which is used only for brake fluid. Brake fluid is poisonous and must on no account be siphoned out by mouth using a hose!
^ Install brake pedal depressor V.A.G 1869/2 before removing a brake caliper or disconnecting a brake hose.
FS III brake caliper, assembly overview:
1 - Phillips-head screw, 4 Nm
2 - Brake disc
^ Thickness: 22 mm
^ Wear limit: 19 mm
^ When worn always replace both sides
^ Remove brake caliper prior to removing
^ Never remove brake discs from hub by force, if necessary, use penetrating fluid, otherwise brake discs can be damaged.
3 - Brake pads
^ Vehicles up to model year 2000
^ Thickness: 14 mm
^ Always replace both sides
^ Wear limit: 7 mm including backing plate
4 - Brake caliper
^ Do not disconnect brake hose when changing brake pads
^ Install brake pedal depressor V.A.G 1869/2 or equivalent
5 - Guide pins, 28 Nm
6 - Protective cap,
^ Take off
7 - Brake hose with banjo union and banjo bolt, 35 Nm
8 - Wheel bearing housing
9 - Hex socket head bolt 8 Nm
10 - Right Front ABS Wheel Speed Sensor G45 / Left Front ABS Wheel Speed Sensor G47
^ Before inserting sensor, clean mounting hole inner surface and coat with lubricant lubricating paste G 000 650
11 - Splash plate
12 - Hex bolt, 10 Nm
13 - Wheel bearing,
^ Replace each time after removing
14 - Circlip
15 - Wheel hub with rotor
16 - Brake pads
^ Vehicles from model year 2001
^ With wear indicator
^ Located on left side on vehicles with brake pad wear indicator
^ Brake Pad Wear Indicator Lamp K32 lights up in instrument panel when wear limit is reached (limit: 2 to 3 mm)
^ Thickness 14 mm
^ Always replace both sides
^ Wear limit: 7 mm including backing plate
17 - Connector
^ Located on left side on vehicles with brake pad wear indicator
18 - Bracket
^ Located on left side on vehicles with brake pad wear indicator
19 - Bolt
^ Located on left side on vehicles with brake pad wear indicator
