V.A.G 1551 Scan Tool (ST), connecting and selecting function





Note:
^ All functions which could previously be performed with V.A.G 1551 can also be performed with the new tester VAS 5051.
^ ABS function is switched off in the control module during On Board Diagnostic (OBD).
^ DTC memory can be erased after it is successfully checked and repaired.

- Connect V.A.G 1551 scan tool with V.A.G 1551/3 adapter cable.

Note: Only early production cars have the DLC connection at the center console

Connect VAS 5051.

1) Operating modes 1 and 2 are displayed alternately

Note:
^ If the display remains blank, check On Board Diagnostic (OBD) harness connector, test steps 14 and 15. Electrical Test Table
^ Additional operating instructions can be obtained by pressing the V.A.G 1551 Scan Tool (ST) "HELP" button.
^ The --> button is used to advance through the program sequence.
^ The "PRINT" button is used for switching on the printer (warning lamp in button comes on).

- Switch ignition on.
- Switch printer on with the "PRINT" button (indicator lamp in button lights up).
- Press button -1 - to select "Rapid data transfer" operating mode 1.

- Press buttons -0- and -3- to insert "Brake Electronics" address word 03.

- Press -Q- button to confirm input.

^ Control module identification number (e.g. 1J0907379D)
^ Control module applications
^ System designation (ABS 20 IE)
^ CAN-bus present
^ Coding- 03604

- Press --> button.

Note: If the following malfunction information appears in the display, the possible causes of the malfunction can be printed out by pressing the "HELP" button.





A possible cause of malfunction is the inlet and outlet valves fuse -S9-.





- Check if ignition switch is in the on position.





Control module identification influenced during checking (possibly influenced from external sources?)
- Check DLC connection as well as voltage supply and Ground (GND) connection for ABS Control Module (w/EDL) -J104-.
- After repairing the possible causes of the malfunction, again press buttons -0- and -3- to insert "Brake Electronics" address word 03.
- Press -Q- button to confirm input.
