Convertible Top Headliner - Electro / Hydraulic and Manual, Removing and Installing

Removing

NOTE:
- On models with an electro/hydraulic convertible top motors for rod flaps must remain connected to wiring harness so that convertible top may be moved hydraulically.
- Position side trim panels in vehicle so that rod flaps can move freely.
- Servo motors may be disconnected from flap motor.
- Protect vehicle against possible paintwork damage with suitable protective covers and textile reinforced adhesive tape.
- If installed, use always new fastening clips.

- Remove side trim panel.
- Remove head restraint cover.
- Open convertible top to half open position.
- Observe safety instructions.
- Remove roof leading edge trim.







- Remove bolts/screws - arrows - from roof leading edge.

CAUTION: For security reasons, hold tension on elastic strap while removing screw







- Pull clamping beading - 1 - out of bracing hoop.







- Pull clamping profile - 1 - off bracing hoop 2.







- Pull insert profile - 1 - off dart out of bracing hoop clamping profile.







- Pull darts between bracing hoop 3 and retaining frame.







- Pull clamping profile - 1 - off bracing hoop 4.







- Pull off C-pillar roof frame seal in direction of - arrow -.







- Pull convertible top fabric beading out of C-pillar channel in - direction of arrow -.







- Release convertible top lining from C-pillar bonding - 1 -.







- Drill out pop rivet for tensioning cable.







- Drill out pop rivet for retainer - 1 - for tensioning cable.
- Open convertible top completely.







- Drill out pop rivet for lower retainer - 1 - for tensioning cable.
- Close convertible top.







- Pull convertible top lining - 2 - out of convertible top fabric retaining frame - 1 - in - direction of arrow -.







- Pull beading out of insert channel of rear window - arrow -.







- Remove securing bolt from roof frame for convertible top lining rubber cable.

CAUTION: For security reasons, hold tension on elastic strap while removing screw

- Pull rubber cable out of loop on convertible top lining.
- Remove screw securing convertible top elastic strap to convertible top retaining frame.







- Drill out pop rivet for roof spoiler cassette beading - arrow -.







- Pull beading out of roof spoiler cassette.







- Pull slide - 1 - downward out of guide.

Installing

NOTE:
- In order to correctly install headliner to rear window, it's important that these steps are strictly followed.
- Attach convertible top lining bonding strip onto C-pillar using double-sided adhesive tape.

Additional steps for vehicles with manual convertible top







- Insert headliner exactly in center of spoiler (first fixation) - arrows -.







- In order to correctly insert spoiler, it is recommended that a plastic hammer is used.







- Insert rivets - arrow - at both sides of spoiler

NOTE: Before continuing, it is recommended that convertible top be opened half way for easier installation of headliner







- Insert headliner into second fixation while making sure white line - arrow - lines up with center of top cover







- Install headliner over frame - arrow -.







- Insert headliner into third fixation - arrow -.







- Insert headliner into forth fixation - arrow -.
- Install headliner cables (Headliner tensioning system, assembly overview).







- Install headliner into fifth fixation - arrow A - near convertible top front latch - arrow B -







- Install retaining screw.







- Install convertible top lock trim.







- Install tensioning cable - arrow - on both sides of convertible top retaining frame







- Convertible top retaining frame is located under rear window - circle -







- In order to install headliner to rear window, open convertible top cover, leaving a space of approx. 10 cm between convertible top latch and convertible top cover







- Install one side of headliner - arrow - to rear window starting from top of rear window and then from bottom. Repeat this step on other side.
- Close convertible top cover without pulling handle to avoid left and right sides of headliner loosening.







- Pull all four corners of headliner in - direction of arrows -







- Install top and bottom center parts of headliner by pressing it against rear window starting at top

NOTE: If headliner does not install correctly at bottom, loosen top center of headliner and install headliner again starting from bottom and working around to top.







- It is recommended that a plastic hammer be used when installing headliner to rear window as shown.

Only for vehicles with manual convertible top

For vehicles with manual convertible top, following steps must be carried out additionally.







- If installed, insert new fastening clips in mounting strip - 1 - of pad non-woven rear - arrows - (4 per side).

NOTE: Distance between fastening clips is not relevant.







- If necessary, insert convertible top fabric - 1 - in convertible top retaining rail - 2 - to side - opposite direction of arrow - (second technician required).







- Insert mounting strip - 1 - of pad non-woven rear in convertible top retaining rail - 2 - in - direction of arrows -







- Install three screws - arrows - on mounting strip and convertible top retaining rail.

If necessary, install in reverse order of removal.
