Power Windows With Convenience System (Automatic Opening and Closing) With Force Limitation Intervention (FLI)

With the introduction of the convenience system for electric windows, the window regulators are additionally equipped with automatic opening and closing features.

The switches for the front window automatic opening and closing functions are located in the drivers door control module. The switches for the drivers and front passengers door are equipped with a two level function.

If the respective switch is pushed or pulled to the first detent the front window will open or close as long as the switch is held ("manually") in the respective position or the end position is reached.

If the respective switch is briefly pushed or pulled fully onto the second detent the window will automatically open or close fully.

There is also a switch in the front passengers door for the front passengers door window but this is not equipped with the two level function.

All power windows are equipped with an force limitation intervention (FLI) system. Closing the window will bee automatically terminated when an object blocks the closing window.

This is not the case when closing the window from the outside with an ignition key. This function is not equipped with the excess force limitation system.

Opening
Switch in drivers door
- Press front section of switch down to first detent. The window will open as long as the switch is being operated.
- Press front section of switch down briefly to second detent. The window will open automatically (automatic fully opening system).
- If the switch is operated again the window will stop immediately.

Switch in front passengers door
- Press lower surface of switch. The window will open as long as the switch is being operated.

Closing
Switch in drivers door
- Pull front section of switch up to first detent. The window will close as long as the switch is being operated.
- Pull front section of switch up briefly to second detent. The window will close automatically (automatic fully closing system).
- If the switch is operated again the window will stop immediately.

Switch in front passengers door
- Press upper surface of switch. The window will close as long as the switch is being operated.

Function of window regulator with ignition switched off
The window regulators can be operated for approx. 10 minutes after switching ignition off, as long as the drivers or front passengers door have not been opened.

The automatic closing function is inoperative when closing the front windows.

If the driver's or front passenger's door window meets excessive resistance or an object during the closing sequence (excessive force limitation) the window will open again immediately.

In this case the window can only be closed again with the ignition switched on.

The windows can also be opened or closed from the outside on models with central locking or the convenience central locking system. The key must only be held in lock cylinder in the lock or unlock position.

Setting automatic opening and closing

NOTE: The automatic opening and closing features for the drivers and front passengers power windows do not function after disconnecting and reconnecting the vehicle battery.

Proceed as follows to reinstate this feature after reconnecting the vehicle battery.
- Lock vehicle (from outside) at driver's or front passenger's door.

When doing this ensure that all doors and windows are closed completely.
- Unlock vehicle and lock vehicle again at driver's or front passenger's door. When doing this hold key for at least one second in the lock position.

The automatic opening and closing function for the drivers and front passengers door windows is reactivated.

If the electric window system is malfunctioning, this is indicated by the switch illumination in the drivers and front passengers door flashing.

All lights in the door trim will flash for approx. 15 seconds after switching on the ignition.
