Diagnostic Mode 5: Check Output Of Oxygen Sensor Signals

NOTE: This diagnostic mode can only be selected with Module number 10 - Engine Electronics.

Function
The static values of the oxygen sensors are indicated via this diagnostic mode.

The values of the individual oxygen sensor test results must reach the specified value or must be within the min.- and max.- limits.

Requirements
- There must not be any DTCs stored in DTC memory. Diagnostic mode 3: Check DTC memory. Diagnostic Mode 3: Check DTC Memory
- Exhaust system must be properly sealed between catalytic converter and cylinder head.
- Coolant temperature must be at least 80 degrees C. Diagnostic mode 1: Check measured values; PID 5, Coolant temperature. Diagnostic Mode 1: Check Measured Values

Work procedure
- Connect diagnostic tester. Diagnostic Tester, Connecting
- Start engine and let run at idle.
- Under address word 33, select "Diagnostic mode 5: Check output of oxygen sensor signals".
- Select desired output of oxygen sensor signals "Test-ID XX".

NOTE:
- When selecting the diagnostic mode, the entry is always performed in "Bank 1 sensor 1".
- If either the V.A.G 1551/1552 Scan Tool (ST) or the VAS5051/5052 Vehicle Diagnostic, Testing and Information System is used for checking the output of oxygen sensor signals, the respective oxygen sensor can be selected by pressing buttons 1,2 and 3:
- Button 1 = Bank 1 sensor 1,
- Button 2 = Bank 1 sensor 2,
- Button 3 = Bank 1 sensor 3.







- End diagnosis and switch ignition off.

Evaluation test-ID 01: Rich to lean sensor barrier voltage (Vehicles with engine code APH, AWP, AWV)

Oxygen sensor Specified value:
Bank 1 sensor 2 smaller than 0.652 V

If specified value is not obtained:
- Replace Oxygen Sensor (O2S) 2 Behind Three Way Catalytic Converter (TWC) -G130- bank 1.
- Erase DTC memory of Engine Control Module (ECM). Diagnostic mode 4: Reset/erase diagnostic data. Diagnostic Mode 4: Reset/Erase Diagnostic Data
- Generate readiness code. Monitors, Trips, Drive Cycles and Readiness Codes

Evaluation test-ID 02: Lean to rich sensor barrier voltage (vehicles with engine code APH, AWP, AWV)

Oxygen sensor Specified value:
Bank 1 sensor 2 larger than 0.652 V

If specified value is not obtained:
- Replace Oxygen Sensor (O2S) 2 Behind Three Way Catalytic Converter (TWC) -G130- bank 1.
- Erase DTC memory of Engine Control Module (ECM). Diagnostic mode 4: Reset/erase diagnostic data. Diagnostic Mode 4: Reset/Erase Diagnostic Data
- Generate readiness code. Monitors, Trips, Drive Cycles and Readiness Codes

Evaluation test-ID 07: Minimum voltage at sensor for test cycle (vehicles with engine code APH, AWP, AWV)







If specified value is exceeded:
- Oxygen sensor not ready for operation
- Oxygen sensor heater faulty:
- Check oxygen sensor heater for Oxygen Sensor (O2S) behind Three Way Catalytic Converter (TWC). Oxygen Sensor Heater For Oxygen Sensor Behind Three Way Catalytic Converter (TWC), Checking
- Short circuit to B+ or open circuit in wiring in oxygen sensor or in wire:
- Check Oxygen Sensor (O2S) and oxygen sensor control behind Three Way Catalytic Converter (TWC). Oxygen Sensor and Oxygen Sensor Control Behind Catalytic Converter, Checking

Evaluation test-ID 08: Maximum voltage at sensor for test cycle (Vehicles with engine code APH, AWP, AWV)







If specified value is not reached:
- Oxygen sensor not ready for operation
- Oxygen sensor heater faulty:
- Check oxygen sensor heater for Oxygen Sensor (O2S) behind Three Way Catalytic Converter (TWC). Oxygen Sensor Heater For Oxygen Sensor Behind Three Way Catalytic Converter (TWC), Checking

- Short circuit to Ground (GND) or open circuit in wiring in oxygen sensor or in wire:
- Check Oxygen Sensor (O2S) and oxygen sensor control behind Three Way Catalytic Converter (TWC). Oxygen Sensor and Oxygen Sensor Control Behind Catalytic Converter, Checking

If specified value is exceeded:
- Short circuit to B+ in oxygen sensor or in wire:
- Check Oxygen Sensor (O2S) and oxygen sensor control behind Three Way Catalytic Converter (TWC). Oxygen Sensor and Oxygen Sensor Control Behind Catalytic Converter, Checking

Evaluation test-ID 129: Current value of oxygen sensor voltage (vehicles with engine code APH, AWP, AWV)







If specified values are not obtained:
- Replace Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) -G39- Bank 1 before catalytic converter.
- Erase DTC memory of Engine Control Module (ECM). Diagnostic mode 4: Reset/erase diagnostic data. Diagnostic Mode 4: Reset/Erase Diagnostic Data
- Generate readiness code. Monitors, Trips, Drive Cycles and Readiness Codes

Evaluation test-ID 130: Control barrier voltage (Vehicles with engine code APH, AWP, AWV)







If specified values are not obtained:
- Replace Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) -G39- Bank 1 before catalytic converter.

- Generate readiness code. Monitors, Trips, Drive Cycles and Readiness Codes

If specified values are not obtained:
- Replace Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) -G39- Bank 1 before catalytic converter.

Evaluation test-ID 132: Oxygen sensor shift via oxygen sensor control behind Three Way Catalytic Converter (TWC) (vehicles with engine code APH, AWP, AWV)







If specified values are not obtained:
- Replace Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) 1 Bank 1 -G39- Bank 1 before catalytic converter.
- Erase DTC memory of Engine Control Module (ECM). Diagnostic mode 4: Reset/erase diagnostic data. Diagnostic Mode 4: Reset/Erase Diagnostic Data
- Generate readiness code. Monitors, Trips, Drive Cycles and Readiness Codes

If specified value is not obtained:
- Replace respective oxygen sensor:
- Oxygen Sensor (O2S (in Center Three Way Catalytic Converter (TWC), Bank 1 -G465-,
- Oxygen Sensor (O2S) Behind Three Way Catalytic Converter (TWC) -G130- bank 3.

- Erase DTC memory of Engine Control Module (ECM). Diagnostic mode 4: Reset/erase diagnostic data. Diagnostic Mode 4: Reset/Erase Diagnostic Data
- Generate readiness code. Monitors, Trips, Drive Cycles and Readiness Codes

Evaluation test-ID 02: Lean to rich sensor barrier voltage (vehicles with engine code BKF, BNU)

Oxygen sensor Specified value:
Bank 1 sensor 2 larger than 0.600 V
Bank 1 sensor 3 larger than 0.600 V

If specified value is not obtained:
- Replace respective oxygen sensor:
- Oxygen Sensor (O2S (in Center Three Way Catalytic Converter (TWC), Bank 1 -G465-,
- Oxygen Sensor (O2S) Behind Three Way Catalytic Converter (TWC) -G130- bank 3.

- Erase DTC memory of Engine Control Module (ECM). Diagnostic mode 4: Reset/erase diagnostic data. Diagnostic Mode 4: Reset/Erase Diagnostic Data
- Generate readiness code. Monitors, Trips, Drive Cycles and Readiness Codes

Evaluation test-ID 07: Minimum voltage at sensor for test cycle (vehicles with engine code BKF, BNU)







If specified value is exceeded:
- Oxygen sensor not ready for operation
Oxygen sensor heater faulty:

Bank 1 sensor 2
- Check oxygen sensor heater for Oxygen Sensor (O2S) in Center Three Way Catalytic Converter (TWC).
- Check Oxygen Sensor (O2S) and oxygen sensor control in center Three Way Catalytic Converter (TWC).

Bank 1 sensor 3
- Check oxygen sensor heater for Oxygen Sensor (O2S) behind Three Way Catalytic Converter (TWC). Oxygen Sensor Heater For Oxygen Sensor Behind Three Way Catalytic Converter (TWC), Checking

- Oxygen sensor not ready for operation

If specified values are not obtained:
- Replace Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) 1 Bank 1 -G39- before catalytic converter.
