Navigation System - Various System Errors

Vehicles equipped with MFD2 DVD - Navigation system may have the following conditions:
1. No navigation system recognized (sporadic).
2. No DVD ejection possible (sporadic).
3. Message "Navigation is activated" stays permanently on screen (sporadic).
4. No destination can be entered, white/empty card (sporadic).
5. No route calculation possible (sporadic).
6. Fault entry "control unit faulty".

Technical Background
DVD - Navigation software fault with the data versions:
1. MFD2 DVD Software versions less than "47".
Production Solution
New DVD - Navigation software version "47".
Service
Update the software version "47" according to the attached instructions.
NOTE: Presets of the radio and the language setting will be lost (destinations, adjustments) The process takes about 45 minutes. Do not start the engine to avoid low voltages.
Important: Remove the ignition key, switch on the unit with the on-off switch, insert Update CD start software download.
The CD must not be damaged, scratched or dirty, otherwise there could be updating errors.
DVD - Navigation Instructions: Verifying Current SW Version
1. Connect an approved battery charger.
2. Remove the ignition key to avoid switching OFF the navigation unit by mistake.
3. Switch ON the navigation unit with the knob.
4. Press CD hardkey
5. Press System settings -arrow- (lower right).
6. Press and hold Factory Set. -arrow- (upper right) until a new screen appears. May take 6 seconds of holding.
7. Press System Info -arrow- (upper left).
8. Press the double down arrow -arrow- (center right) once.
9. Read the information in the second line of the screen which starts with HW - HU. The last two digits indicate the current software version -square-.
10. If SW version is less than "47", proceed with steps 11-23.

11. Make a note of the language adjustment and the assigned radio stations.
12. Take out the Navigation DVD, press the NAV button on the unit and insert the Download CD. It may take a moment till the Download CD is recognized. If the bar doesn't appear, eject and insert the CD again.
13. After the bar is complete an update menu with the software versions is shown. Here a comparison of new/old versions is possible. Do not perform the update, if the latest software version has been installed.
14. Press the top left softkey "Load" -arrow- to start the update. The download takes place in three parts and lasts about 45 minutes.
15. The Download CD is ejected at the end (do not remove manually with the eject key). Reinsert the disk. The update menu appears again.
16. In the update menu press the bottom left softkey "Cancel" -arrow-.
17. The Download CD is again ejected and can now be removed.
18. Insert the Map DVD of the vehicle or another suitable Map DVD.
19. The navigation software is now loaded again and the system shows the normal navigation interface.
20. If necessary, reset the language adjustment and the assigned radio stations.
21. Switch off the navigation system (=> adjustments saved).
22. Read and delete the overall fault memory. The download may lead to fault entries in following control units: Gateway, dash insert, navigation, sound system, and radio.
23. Read the SW version as described in steps 3-10.Repeat flash if SW did not change.
