Technical Background

When playing the radio at higher bass levels the speakers emit rattle inducing frequencies causing the rear inner door panels to resonate. The resonating inner door panels may be perceived as a rattle.

Production Solution

Add non-woven tape as insulation along the edge of the rear door panels. This repair solution is only applicable to vehicles up to VIN 1K_6M684878, U.S. and VIN 1K_6M687557 Canada.

Service

Strategically place noise dampening felt tape on each door panel assembly and supporting structure, to absorb rattle inducing frequencies following the procedure below:

Note:
Procedure MUST be performed on both rear vehicle doors, even if customer concern is with one door only.

Door Panel repair areas must be clean and dry before attempting repairs.

Rear Door Procedure

^ Prior to removing door panel, apply paper tape as trace reference to mark exact position of rear door trim panel in relation to inner door.

^ Remove both rear door trim panel(s), (see Repair Manual Body Interior Group 70-mm/insulation, "Rear door trim, removing and installing").

^ Using the inside edge of the paper tape as a guide, apply ZVW 837 001 foam tape to inside door frame along the sides of the trim panel to door contact surface (black arrows), then remove paper tape guide and foam tape protector.
