Adhere inner door panel sub-assemblies and strategically place noise dampening felt tape on each door panel assembly and supporting structure, to absorb rattle inducing frequencies following the procedure below:
Note:
Procedure MUST be performed on both vehicle front doors, even if customer concern is with one door only. Door Panel repair areas must be clean and dry before attempting repairs.
Front Door Procedure
^ Prior to removing door panels, apply paper tape as trace reference to mark exact position of front door trim panels in relation to inner doors and speaker.
^ Identify and paper tape the location of the inner door panel indented area.
^ Identify and paper tape the location of the front door speaker contact area with door panel.
^ Remove both front door trim panel(s), (see Repair Manual Body Interior Group 70 Trim/insulation.
^ Using the inside edge of the paper tape as a guide, apply ZVW837 001 foam tape to inside door frame all along the trim panel to door contact surface (black arrows), then remove paper guide tape. DO NOT apply, (approx. 12 in.), ZVW837 001 foam tape to door bottom area (white arrows).
Tip:
Part No. ZVW837 001 foam tape will repair 8 vehicles (16 doors).
^ Triple a piece of ZVW 837 001 foam tape, (approx. 1.5 inches in length), and place as a noise buffer in the door panel indentation where indicated (black arrows).
^ Apply W847 201 flock tape from W-42 squeak and rattle kit, to speaker cover where indicated and remove release paper from tape.
^ Remove both window regulator motors. (See Repair Manual Body Exterior Group 64, Glass, Windows.
^ Install two pieces of ZVW837 001 Foam Tape insulation to the window regulator motors where indicated (white arrows).
^ Install the window regulator motors. (See Repair Manual Body Exterior Group 64, Glass, Windows.
^ Wrap all labels around existing wire harness on both door panel(s), and door trim panel(s) and secure with W-847 208 self-adhesive tape from W42 Squeak and Rattle Kit.
Tip:
When securing the wiring harness label, the harness part number must be visible.
Place inner door panels up side down on a clean work surface.
Inner Door Trim Panel Bonding
Note
3M(TM) Duramix 4747 Super Fast Plastic Repair Adhesive sets up very quickly (within 20 seconds). The following steps need to be performed in a timely and orderly fashion.
3M(TM) Duramix 4747 Super Fast Plastic Repair Adhesive, dispenser 4991 and dispenser tips 4909 can be obtained locally, follow the product instructions.
Tip:
3M(TM) Duramix 4747 Super Fast Plastic Repair Adhesive will repair both front doors.
Run a continuous 1/4 inch bead of adhesive following the entire seam contour of center to upper inner door panel contact surface.
Tip:
^ Clean the window seal and begin the installation of Part No. 1Y0 871 435 at front leading edge of lowered glass heading toward the A- pillar. The glue edge must point down and center in channel.
^ Locate where the outer glass touches the outer glass seal and install Part No: 1Y0 871 435 into the outer window seal, between the seal and the outer molding.
^ Re-install interior door panels (see Repair Manual Body Interior Group 70-Trim/insulation, Drivers side front door trim, removing and installing or Passengers side front door trim, removing and installing.
Tip:
Ensure all door functions operate properly after installation of door panel.
^ Tighten all outer door panel fasteners to specification.
