Selector shaft seal, replacing, 09A, 5 Spd. A/T

Special tools and equipment

T10090 Thrust piece:

VAG 1331 Torque wrench:

- Check whether a coded radio is installed. If so, obtain anti-theft coding.
- Switch ignition off and disconnect battery Ground strap.
- Remove battery.
- Remove battery carrier.
- Shift selector lever into P position.





- Remove nut (arrow).
- Remove lever -1- from selector shaft.
- Disconnect multi-function TR switch connector -2-.
- Remove Multi-function TR switch -F125- -3-.





- Pry seal out using a screwdriver. Do not damage selector shaft.





- Drive in new seal until thrust piece contacts stop. Ensure that seal remains straight when driving in.





- Install Multi-function TR switch -F125- -3-.
- Fit connector -2- to multi-function TR switch.
- Push lever -1- onto selector shaft.
- Shift selector lever from P to 2.
- Tighten nut (arrow) to 20 Nm.
- Install battery carrier.
- Install battery.
- Reconnect Ground strap to battery.
- Check selector lever cable adjustment.
- Enter radio code.
