Power steering gear, assembly overview
Power steering gear is not serviceable. If complaints are received, determine cause with the help of pressure tests, leak test and Guided Fault Finding. If a malfunction exists replace power steering gear.
Note:
^ Replace self-locking nuts and bolts. Welding and straightening work on steeling components is not permitted.
^ To grease the rack only use steeling gear grease AOF 063 000 04.
^ Replace self-locking nuts and bolts.
^ Type of fluid. Hydraulic fluid G 002 000
^ System oil capacity. 0.7 to 0.9 L
1 - Tie rod end
^ Checking: go to Security and boots on tie rod ends, checking play
Modification:
Modified tie rod ball joints go to Tie rod ball joints, modified
^ Is installed from below on R32
^ With the R32, after pressing out the tie rod end, press socket back into tie rod arm
2 - Hex nut, 50 Nm
3 - Clamp
^ Always replace
^ Tightening
4 - Boot
^ Must not be twisted when adjusting rod
^ Remove steering gear to replace
5 - Clamp
^ Always replace
6 - Tie rod
^ 75 Nm
Modification:
Modified tie rods go to Tie rods, modified
^ Replacement parts are supplied preset
^ Different versions
7 - Clamp with rubber sleeve
8 - Return line
9 - Hex nut, 22 Nm
10 - Clamp with rubber mounting
Installation location
^ Arrow on clamp points forward
^ Replace if threads in welded nut are damaged
11 - Heat shield
12 - Self-locking hex nut, 45 Nm
13 - Selector mechanism bearing bracket
14 - Hex bolt, 24 Nm
15 - Gasket
^ Observe installation instructions
16 - Hydraulic line
17 - Banjo bolt, 45 Nm
M16 x 1.5
18 - Banjo bolt, 38 Nm
M14 x 1.5
19 - Sealing rings
^ Always replace
