01E Manual Transmission


Gear selector mechanism, adjusting
wing points are essential to ensure correct selector adjustment:

^ Moving parts of selector mechanism and transmission elements must be in proper condition.
^ Selector mechanism must move freely.

The transmission, clutch and clutch mechanism must also be in proper condition.
- Transmission in neutral position.
- Carefully pry cover off center console.

Vehicles to 10/2000
- Unscrew gear selector lever knob with cover.





Vehicles from 11/2000
- Destroy clip (arrow) and pull gear selector lever knob off with cover.





Continuation for all vehicles
- Remove gear selector lever housing cover (arrows).
- Measure distance between body and gear selector mechanism.





- Distance -a- must be 43 mm.
- If not, adjust dimension -a- as follows:
- Loosen push rod screw (arrow).
Connection of push rod/selector mechanism must move freely.
- Set to dimension -a- by moving selector mechanism.
- Tighten push rod bolt (arrow) to prescribed torque.





- Loosen selector rod bolt (arrow).
- Connection of selector rod/selector mechanism must move freely.

- Insert 14 mm hex key -A- between left tab (in direction of travel) (arrow -1-) of ball stop and sloped shoulder alongside ball stop (arrow -2-) and hold.
- Key must have contact along entire shoulder-2-.
- Adjust gear selector lever so that it tilts slightly toward rear.
