^ Mark installed position before removing: greater diameter (concave side) facing shims item -10

Removing
^ Transmission removed
- Disconnect driveshaft from transmission.
- Secure driveshaft to selector linkage.
- Place drip tray VAG 1306 or equivalent underneath.
- Remove rear oil drain plug (on end cover) and drain transmission oil.
- Remove bearing plate securing bolts.

Note: The bearing plate will be pressed slightly away from the end cover by the coil spring as the securing bolts are loosened.





- Pull flange shaft together with bearing plate and vibration damper off end cover.
- Remove bearing plate.
- Remove circlip from flange shaft.





- Press out flange shaft.
- Pull out flange shaft oil seal.
- Thoroughly clean oil seal seat.





- Press out grooved ball bearing.

Installing





- Press grooved ball bearing into bearing plate.





- Lightly lubricate outer circumference of oil seal -B-.
- Put oil seal with disk -A- Part No. 016 311 391 B (thickness 1.7 mm) on drift 2005.
Installed position: Open side of oil seal facing transmission.





- Drive in flange shaft oil seal.
- Remove disk after driving in.
- Half fill space between sealing lip and dust lip with grease G 052 128 A1.





- Press in flange shaft.
- Put circlip on flange shaft.
- Lightly lubricate O-ring and fit into groove of bearing plate.
- Insert dished spring and shims in bearing plate.
- Push coiled spring onto flange shaft.
- Tighten bearing plate securing bolts to prescribed torque in stages using diagonal sequence.
- Connect driveshaft.
- Fill transmission with gear oil and check level.
