Selector Lever Mechanism, Removing and Installing

Selector lever mechanism, removing and installing, 01V, 5 SPD. A/T (FWD)

Removing
- Obtain radio code on vehicles with coded radio.
- Shift selector lever into "P" position.
- With the ignition switched off disconnect the battery Ground strap.
- Remove selector lever handle.
- Remove center console and extension.
- Remove cover.
- Unplug electrical connectors.
- Unclip locking cable from locking lever and unclip securing spring on mounting bracket. To do this, lift securing spring slightly.
- Raise vehicle.
- If necessary, remove front exhaust system with catalyst.





- Remove cover from mounting bracket -arrows-.





- Press together ends of securing clip -B- and remove.
- Pull down locking plate -A- (for securing selector lever cable to mounting bracket) and remove.
- Pull selector lever cable off selector lever.
- Remove nuts (Qty. 4) from above.
- Remove mounting bracket from below.
- At the same time pull selector lever cable out of mounting bracket. When doing this, do not kink the cable.

Installing
^ Selector lever and selector shaft lever to position "P" (parking lock must engage).
- Raise vehicle.
- Bring selector shaft lever in position "P" on transmission. Locking lever must engage in park lock wheel, both front wheels are blocked (cannot be turned together in a direction).
- Slide selector lever cable boot and mounting bracket cover onto selector lever cable.
- Do not bend or kink selector lever cable.
- Insert selector lever cable in mounting bracket.
- Install mounting bracket on body.
- Tighten nuts (qty. 4) from above.
- Connect electrical connections.
- Install locking cable and adjust.
- Install cover.
- Shift selector lever into position "3".
- Install selector lever handle.
- Connect selector lever cable to selector lever.

Installation position:
The angled end of the locking plate -A- faces the end of the selector lever cable.





- Install locking plate -A- for selector lever cable onto mounting bracket.
- Press together ends of securing clip -B- and slide onto end of selector lever cable.
- Install cover. When doing this check position of seal.





- Tighten nuts -arrows- (qty. 4).
- Check selector lever cable adjustment, adjust if necessary.
- Check ignition key withdrawal lock.
- If removed, install front exhaust system with catalyst.
- Install central console and extension.
- Reconnect Ground strap to battery.
- Check selector lever mechanism.
- Enter radio code.
- Initialize electric windows, set clock.
