Selector Lever Cable, Removing and Installing

Selector lever cable, removing and installing, 01V, 5 SPD. A/T (FWD)

Special tools and equipment

80-200 Removal lever:

VAG 1331 Torque wrench:

Removing
- Shift selector lever into "P" position.
- Raise vehicle.





- Remove noise insulation tray -arrows-.

Vehicles with V6 engine
- Remove front exhaust system with catalyst.
- Remove selector lever cable protective plate.

Continued for all vehicles
- Remove left-hand transmission bracket.





- Remove cover from mounting bracket -arrows-.

Disconnect selector lever cable from mounting bracket as follows:





- Press together ends of securing clip -B- and remove.
- Pull down locking plate -A- (for securing selector lever cable to mounting bracket) and remove.
- Pull selector lever cable off selector lever.





- Remove selector lever cable from selector shaft lever -arrow-.
- Remove support bracket from transmission.
- Release selector lever cable from support bracket.
- Pull selector lever cable out from mounting bracket, when doing this do not kink cable.

Installing





- Push selector lever cable -1- fully forward -arrow- and shift selector shaft lever -2- into position "2".
- Using a pair of pliers, carefully push the selector lever cable onto the selector shaft lever. When doing this, take care not to bend the selector shaft lever, otherwise the selector mechanism will not be able to be adjusted correctly.
- Bring selector shaft lever in position "P" on transmission. Locking lever must engage in park lock wheel, both front wheels are blocked (cannot be turned together in a direction).
- Do not bend or kink the selector lever cable, lightly grease cable eye and cable ends before installing.
- Insert selector lever cable in mounting bracket.
- Connect selector lever cable to selector lever.

Installation position:
The angled end of the locking plate must point toward the end of the selector lever cable.





- Install locking plate -A- for selector lever cable onto mounting bracket.
- Press together ends of securing clip -B- and slide onto end of selector lever cable.
- Connect selector lever cable to support bracket (hand-tight).
- Bolt support bracket to transmission (hand-tight).
- Align selector cable lever in support bracket.





- Tighten bolts securing support bracket to transmission -arrows 1- and secure selector lever cable to support bracket -arrow 2- to specified torque, B-Support bracket. When doing this, counterhold on hex -arrow 3-.





- Tighten nuts (qty. 4).
- Check selector lever cable adjustment, adjust if necessary.
- Remove left-hand transmission bracket.

Vehicles with V6 engine
- Install selector lever cable protective plate.
- Install front exhaust system with catalyst.

Continued for all vehicles
- Install noise insulation.

Tightening torques:
