Shift Lever Must Be Pressed Down to Engage Reverse Gear
Selector mechanism, adjusting
Notes: The following points are essential to ensure correct selector adjustment:
- Moving parts of selector mechanism and transmission elements must be in proper condition.
- Selector mechanism must move freely.
The transmission, clutch and clutch mechanism must also be in proper condition.
- Transmission in neutral position.
- Carefully lever the cover off the center console.
- Then unscrew the shin lever knob with cover.
- The rubber cover for the shin lever housing must be removed (arrows).
- Measure distance between body and selector mechanism.
- Distance -a- must be 37 mm.
- If this is not the case, adjust dimension -a- as follows:
- Loosen push rod screw (arrow).
- The connection push rod/selector mechanism must move freely.
- Set to dimension -a- by moving selector mechanism.
- Tighten slide rod bolt (arrow) to 25 Nm.
- Loosen ball housing nuts (arrow-A- and arrow -B-).
- The ball housing must be set so that it is horizontal.
- Then tighten ball housing nuts to 25 Nm.
- Loosen selector rod bolt (arrow).
- The connection selector rod/selector mechanism must move freely.
- Align shin lever so that it is positioned slightly to the rear.
- The distance -a- for both ball stop lugs to ball housing must be equal.
- Tighten selector rod bolt to 25 Nm.
Functional check
- The shin lever must rest in the 3rd/4th gear gate when transmission is in neutral.
- Operate clutch.
- Select all gears several times. Pay particular attention to the operation of the reverse gear lock.
- The shin lever must move from the 5th/reverse gear gate into the 3rd/4th gear gate on its own.
Should a gear fail to engage smoothly after repeated selection then continue as follows:
Fine adjustment
- Loosen ball housing nuts (arrow-A- and arrow -B-).
- Press the shift lever to right onto transmission stop.
- When doing this push the ball housing to left against the shift lever.
- Then hold shift lever and ball housing in this position and tighten to 25 Nm.
- Fit shift lever knob and cover.
Note: If only 5th gear and reverse gear cannot be engaged, the 5th and reverse gear locking unit must be checked and replaced if necessary.
