Idle speed (RPM), adjusting


In exceptional cases, for example if the customer complains about droning noises or vibrations when idling, it is permissible to make slight adjustments in the idle speed (RPM). When doing so, do not adjust the idle speed (RPM) outside the specified range (otherwise, the vehicle will not pass its next emissions test).

Special tools and equipment

- V.A.G 1551 Scan Tool (or VAG 1552 mobile scan tool) with VAG 1551/3 cable

Test requirements

- No DTCs in DTC memory
- Coolant temperature must be at least 80 °C, See Display group 04, display field 3

Procedure

- Connect V.A.G 1551 scan tool (VAG 1552). Start engine and select the Engine Control Module (ECM) using address word 01.

- Press 1 and 0 for function "Adjustment", and then press Q to exit from input mode.

Insert channel number XX



- Press 0 and 1 for channel number 1, and then press Q to exit from input mode.

- Press following keys to change specified RPM in display field 2 in 10 RPM increments:

VAG 1551: keys 1 and 3
VAG 1552: keys up arrow and down arrow

NOTE: Do not adjust idle speed (RPM) outside permitted range.


- Press Q to exit from entry mode.

- Press -> key to exit from adjustment mode.
- Press buttons -0- and -6- to select "End data transfer" function 06. Press -Q- button to confirm input.
- Switch ignition off.
