Flex Plate: Service and Repair

Drive plate, removing and installing

Special tools, equipment, testers, measuring instruments and auxiliary items required





^ VW558 Counter support tool
^ Hex bolt M8 x 45 and two M10 hex nuts
^ Depth gauge





Loosening and tightening drive plate
^ Secure counter support tool VW558 to the drive plate with a M8 x 45 hex bolt. Place two M10 hex nuts between counter support tool and drive plate.
Position of counter support tool:
A - To loosen
B - To tighten





Installing drive plate
^ Locate drive plate and packing plate with recesses -1-.
^ Install new bolts -3- and tighten to 30 Nm.





^ Measure dimension -a- at three different outer holes of drive plate (120° off set) and calculate average.
Specification: 19.5...21.1 mm

Note: Measure through hole in drive plate to milled surface of cylinder block. To do this unhook intermediate plate.

If the specification is not attained:





^ Remove drive plate again and install shim -2-. Again tighten bolts -3- to 30 Nm.
^ Tighten bolts to 60 Nm and 90° (1/4 turn) further (turning further can be done in several stages).
