VAS 5051 Diagnosis, Testing and Information System, connecting and selecting function
Special tools and equipment
- VAS 5051 Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System
- Diagnostic cable VAS 5051/1 or VAS 5051/3
WARNING:
^ When performing a road test the test and measuring units must be secured on the rear seat.
^ During the road test only one person must operate these units.
- Connect tester VAS 5051 to Data Link Connector (DLC) using diagnostic cable VAS 5051/1 or VAS 5051/3 with ignition switched off.
- Switch tester on (arrow).
- The tester is operationally ready when a picture (photograph) of a vehicle appears on the display.
- Switch ignition on.
- Touch key on screen for: Guided Fault Finding.
- Select one after another:
^ Brand
^ Model
^ Model year
^ Variant
^ Engine code
- Confirm data as entered:
Note: Wait until the tester has read all the available control modules.
- Using "Go to" key, select "Function/component selection"
- Follow instructions on screen to start functions desired.
The following description is for displays and VAG 1551 printouts:
- Switch ignition on.
- Operate brake pedal once.
- Switch on printer with Print key (indicator lamp in key lights up).
- Press key 1 for"Rapid data transfer" mode.

- Press keys 0 and 2. ("02" enters address word "transmission electronics").

- Confirm entry with Q key.

The control module identification, coding and the Dealership number are shown on the VAG 1551 display.
Control module identification
Note: Depending upon build level (program level) the control module can indicate a different control module identification from that shown in the example. Allocation of control module; Refer to Part Supplier.

^ 0250: EPROM (program level)
^ Coding 00008: Coding
^ WSC 00000: Dealership code of VAG 1551 with which the last coding was performed.
Indicated on display
- By pressing "HELP" key a list of possible fault causes is printed out.
- After eliminating possible causes of faults, again enter address word 02 for "transmission electronics" and confirm.
If "Control module does not answer!" again appears:
Indicated on display
- Check control module voltage supply.
- Perform test step 1.
- Check wiring connections to diagnostic sockets:
Refer to Wiring Diagrams
- Refer to DTC table, under DTC 65535: control module faulty!
- Press (arrow) key.
Indicated on display:
After the HELP key is pressed, a list of the possible functions is printed out.
