Bonded rubber bushings, removing and installing





Special tools and equipment
^ VW 771 Slide hammer-complete set
^ 3301 Assembly tool
^ 3346 Installation device
^ 3416/1 Press piece
^ 3416/2 Press piece
^ 3416/3 Support tube

Removing





- On vehicles without ABS, remove bolts -1- and -2- for brake pressure regulator





- Unclip parking brake cable from retainer on rear axle beam arrow -A- and unhook from retainers -arrows-.
- Remove clips -1- on both sides .
- Place VAG 1 383A engine/transmission jack in position with rag under brake line.





- Disconnect brake line from rear axle.





- Remove bolts -1- on rear axle mounting bracket on both sides.





- Position wooden block (approx. 100 mm 4 inch long) between rear axle beam and body.
- Install VW 771 slide hammer and pull out bonded rubber bushing.

Installing





The bonded rubber bushing has a mark -1- on it's face.
This mark must align with the edge -arrow- of trailing arm -2-.
- Mark position of marks -1- on bonded rubber bushing.





- Assemble special tool with bonded rubber bushing.





- Install bonded rubber bushing and special tool onto rear axle.
Make sure that mark aligns with the edge of trailing arm.
- Pull in bonded rubber bushing by turning spindle.
- Check position of bonded rubber bushing after installing.
The remainder of the installation is the reverse of removal.

Fastener/location Tightening torques:
Mounting bracket to rear axle 80 Nm (59 ft. lbs.)
Use new nuts and bolts!
