Sealing flanges and flywheel/drive plate, removing and installing
Note: Repair work on clutch:
Refer to Transmission and Drivetrain, Clutch, Service and Repair; Servicing clutch
Engine codes BDC, BGD
1. 90 Nm + 1/4 turn (90°) further
^ Replace
^ Threads and shoulder must be free of oil and grease
^ Use counter support tool 3415 to loosen and tighten
2. Crankshaft toothed belt sprocket
3. 15 Nm
4. Seal
PTFE sealing rings:
^ Do not additionally oil or grease oil seal sealing lip
Coil spring seals:
^ Oil or grease lightly the seal sealing lip
5. Sealing flange
6. Cylinder block
7. 60 Nm + 1/4 turn (90°) further
^ Replace
8. Flywheel/drive plate
9. Intermediate plate
^ Must be located on dowel sleeves; Refer to Fig 2
^ Do not damage/bend when assembling
10. Sealing flange with oil seal
^ Only replace complete
^ Use protective sleeve supplied when installing
^ Remove oil sump to remove and install
^ Before installing, remove oil remains from crankshaft journal with a clean cloth.
^ Remove protective sleeve first after sealing flange has been slid onto crankshaft journal
PTFE sealing rings:
^ Do not additionally oil or grease oil seal sealing lip
Coil spring seals:
^ Oil or grease lightly the seal sealing lip
^ Differences between PTFE sealing ring and coil spring seals; Refer to Fig 1.

Note:
^ For clarity reasons, individual sealing rings for sealing flange are also shown. Only replace sealing flange complete with oil seal.
^ A PTFE seal (Teflon) -2- is gradually being introduced instead of the inner coil spring seal-1-. This has a wider sealing lip.
^ PTFE oil seals are installed free of oil and grease.
^ A radial shaft seal of older design (with annular spring) may be replaced with a PTFE oil seal, but not vice versa.
^ When a PTFE seal is installed, then only such a seal may be installed as a replacement part!
