Front Sealing Flange, Removing and Installing
Front sealing flange, removing and installing
Special tools, equipment, testers, measuring instruments and auxiliary items required
For PTFE seals:
^ 3415 Counter support
^ T10053 Assembly device
^ VAG1331 Torque wrench (5...50 Nm)
^ VAG1332 Torque wrench (40...200 Nm)
^ Hand drill with plastic brush attachment
^ D 176 404 A2 Silicone sealant
^ Flat scraper
Special tools, equipment, testers, measuring instruments and auxiliary items required
For coil spring seals:
^ 2080A Installation sleeve
^ 3415 Counterhold
^ VAG1331 Torque wrench (5...50 Nm)
^ VAG1332 Torque wrench (40...200 Nm)
^ Hand drill with plastic brush attachment
^ D 176 404 A2 Silicone sealant
^ Flat scraper
Removing
^ Remove ribbed belt.
^ Remove tensioning element for ribbed belt.
^ Remove toothed belt.
^ Remove crankshaft toothed belt pulley. To do this counter support sprocket with 3415.
^ Drain engine oil.
^ Remove oil sump.
^ Unbolt front sealing flange.
^ Take off sealing flange, release using light blows with a rubber headed hammer if necessary.
^ Remove sealant residue from cylinder block with a flat scraper.
^ Cover oil seal with a clean cloth.
^ Remove sealant remains on sealing flange with a rotating plastic brush (wear protective goggles).
^ Clean sealing surfaces. Surfaces must be free of oil and grease.
Installing
^ Cut off tube nozzle at front marking (nozzle approximately 3 mm diameter).
^ Apply silicone sealing compound, as shown, to clean sealing surface of sealing flange.
^ Thickness of sealant bead (arrows): 2...3 mm
Note:
^ Before applying sealing bead, cover the oil seal with a clean cloth.
^ The sealing compound bead must not be thicker, otherwise excessive sealing compound will enter the sump and may block the oil suction pipe strainer.
^ Note the use-by date of the sealant.
^ The sealing flange must be installed within 5 minutes of applying the silicone sealing compound.
PTFE sealing rings
Note: Use guide sleeve T10053/1 to fit sealing flange with the oil seal already installed.
Coil spring seals
Note: Use guide sleeve 2080A to fit sealing flange with the oil seal already installed.
Continuation for all seals
Note: The sealant must be allowed to cure for approximately 30 minutes after installing the sump. After this time the engine may be filled with engine oil.
^ Install sealing flange immediately and lightly tighten all bolts.
^ Tighten sealing flange securing bolts using an alternating sequence and torque to 15 Nm.
^ Remove excess sealing compound.
^ Install sump.
^ Install crankshaft toothed belt pulley and counter support with 3415.
Torque bolts to 90 Nm + 1/4 turn (90°) further.
Note: Thread and shoulder must be free of oil and grease.
^ Install toothed belt and adjust timing.
^ Install tensioning element for ribbed belt.
^ Install ribbed belt.
