^ VAG1331 Torque wrench (5...50 Nm)
^ VAG1332 Torque wrench (40...200 Nm)

Special tools, equipment, testers, measuring instruments and auxiliary items required
For PTFE seals:

^ 3203 Oil seal extractor
^ 3415 Counter support
^ T10053 Assembly device
^ VAG1331 Torque wrench (5...50 Nm)
^ VAG1332 Torque wrench (40...200 Nm)

Removing
^ Remove ribbed belt.
^ Remove toothed belt.

^ Remove crankshaft toothed belt pulley. To do this counter support sprocket with 3415.

^ To guide seal extractor, thread center bolt into crankshaft onto limit stop by hand.
^ Unscrew inner part of oil seal extractor 3203 nine turns (approximately 20 mm) out of outer part and lock with knurled screw.

^ Lubricate threaded head of oil seal extractor 3203, place it in position and exerting firm pressure screw it as far as possible into oil seal.
^ Loosen knurled screw and turn inner part against crankshaft until oil seal is pulled out.

Installing

Note:

^ A PTFE seal (Teflon) -2- is gradually being introduced instead of the inner coil spring seal -1-. This has a wider sealing lip.
^ PTFE oil seals are installed free of oil and grease.
^ When a PTFE seal is installed, then only such a seal may be installed as a replacement part!

^ Before installing, remove oil remains from crankshaft journal with a clean cloth.

PTFE sealing rings
^ Mount guide sleeve T10053/1 onto crankshaft journal.
^ Slide oil seal over guide sleeve onto crankshaft journal.

^ Press in oil seal onto limit stop using press sleeve T10053 and bolt T10053/2 (M16 x 1.5 x 60).

Coil spring seals
^ Lightly oil sealing lip of oil seal.

^ Mount guide sleeve from 2080A onto crankshaft journal.
^ Slide oil seal over guide sleeve.

^ Press seal against limit stop using press sleeve from 3266. To do this, use old center bolt for crankshaft toothed belt sprocket:
^ Press seal against limit stop.

Continuation for all seals
^ Install crankshaft toothed belt pulley and counter support with 3415.
^ Tighten new center bolt to 90 Nm and 90°(1/4 turn) further (turning further can be done in several stages).

Note: Thread and shoulder must be free of oil and grease.

Installing toothed belt and adjusting timing.
^ Install ribbed belt.
