Windshield, Removing
- Remove A-pillar trim
- If necessary, remove rain sensor.
- Remove both sun visors.
- Unhook sun visor - 1 - out of mount - 2 -.
- Pry off cap - 6 -.
- Remove bolt - 5 -.
- Remove sun visor mount - 4 - from mounting and disconnect harness connector - 3 -.
- Pry off cap - 7 -.
- Remove bolts - 8 - and remove mounts - 2 -.
Standard interior mirror
- Pull off rear edge of trim (with clock) - 1 - downward from roof trim and disengage trim at front edge.
- Disconnect harness connector - 2 - for interior light (and clock).
Automatic dimming interior mirror
- Pull trim (with clock) - 1 - against spring pressure toward rear - arrow A - and disengage trim at front edge - arrow B -.
- Pull trim - 1 - downward at rear edge
- Disconnect harness connectors - 2 -.
Continuation for all vehicles
- Pull rearview mirror - 1 - down at an angle to release from retaining plate - arrow -(retaining springs in base of mirror).
- Remove wiper arms (hex nuts M8 = 20 Nm).
- Remove outer plenum chamber cover.
- Remove sealing lip in upper area of windshield and along A-pillars from window flange using a plastic wedge, and spray with cleaning solution D 009 401 04 (as a substitute for lubricant).
- Using tube, insert cutting cord into window flange (cutting cable can also be used).
- For very narrow gap dimensions, guide cutting cord from outside and press under lip using plastic wedge.
- Push cutting cord end through adhesive sealant into vehicle interior using awl (from V.A.G1474 A).
- Secure one cord end to spooling tool V.A.G 1654.
- Pull through second cord inward and attach grip from V.A.G 1351 to counterhold.
- Set spooling tool V.A.G 1654 into "Position I".
- Move spooling tool according to position required and cut windshield free.
- While cutting free, press cutting cord against window using plastic wedge in order to have clearance from window flange and instrument cluster.
