Door Windows, May Separate from Window Regulator Clamps

Technical Background
Door windows may separate from window regulator clamps under certain operating conditions. In order to provide additional retention capability for the window / window regulator clamp assembly, perform the following repair procedure outlined in this bulletin.

Tip:
See Repair Manual, Group 64 Glass, Window regulators, for instruction concerning removal, installation and adjustment of door glass.
Procedure must be performed on both door windows, even though customer concern may be with one side only.
Remove both front door interior trim panels to access window regulator clamps, see Repair Manual Group 70, Interior Trim, Door Trim.
Tip:
Remove the power window switch from the door trim panels and reconnect to door wiring harness. This will allow operation of door window regulator during glass removal.
Loosen front window regulator clamp bolt through inspection hole but DO NOT remove bolt at this time.
Remove bolt from rear clamp.
Pull glass free of rubber isolators and remove glass from door. Store glass in a clean and safe area.
Remove recess seal and tape off area to prevent scratching paint.
Raise window regulator to top of travel to gain access and remove rubber isolator from clamp, through top of door. Care must be taken not to scratch paint or drop isolator into door.
Remove isolator through top of door.
Scuff rubber isolator, where they contact glass, with 120 grit sand paper to remove gloss.
Clean scuffed area with 3M(R) General Purpose Adhesive Cleaner Part No: 08987.
Apply a 10 mm diameter spot of 3M(R) Channel Bonding and Sidelite Adhesive, Part No. 08641, to one side of the isolator.
Tip:
Adhesive application tool is available locally.
Install rubber isolator in front clamp through top of door and back into window regulator clamp.
Clean glass where it inserts into window regulator clamps with 3M(R) General Purpose Adhesive Cleaner Part No: 08987.
Install glass into window regulator clamp, see Repair Manual Group 64, Glass, Window Regulator, Door Window Adjusting.
Apply Loctite 242(R) (obtain from local supplier) to exposed window regulator clamps bolt threads.
Close window and follow Repair Group 64 for proper adjustment of glass, Adjust door glass far enough forward or downward until seated into window regulator clamp and check distance between glass and back of door to ensure 65 mm (2.5 in.) clearance is obtained.
Tighten each window regulator clamp bolt to 11 Nm (97 in. lbs.).
Install both front door interior trim panels to access window regulator clamps, see Repair Manual Group 70, Interior Trim, Door Trim.
Clean window and work area.
Tip:
Do Not operate window for 30 minutes. This will allow adhesive to cure.
