4 Speed Automatic 01M



Required special tools and equipment:





^ 3373 Lever for conductor strip





^ VA.G 1331 Torque wrench or equivalent

CAUTION
Do not run engine or tow vehicle with oil pan removed or when there is no ATF in transmission.

Note:
^ The valve body or conductor strip can also be removed with transmission installed.
^ The conductor strip can be removed individually
^ After re-installing oil pan, fill with ATF.
^ Always replace a valve body which is contaminated or faulty





1 Plug
^ Tightening torque 15 Nm (11 ft. lbs.)
^ Always replace seal refer to Fig. 2
^ ATF level, checking and topping up
2 Overflow pipe
^ Remove to drain ATF refer to Fig. 1
^ Screw in to stop
^ ATF level, checking and topping up.
3 Oil pan
4 Bolt, 12 Nm (9 ft. lbs.)
5 Magnet
^ Insert in recess of oil pan
6 Spacer bushing
^ Press into gasket
7 Gasket
^ Always replace
^ Press spacer bushings into gasket
8 ATF screen
^ Installing refer to Fig. 10
9 Bolt, 5 Nm (44 inch lbs.)
10 Gasket
^ Always replace
^ Insert in valve body
11 Valve body
^ Removing refer to Fig. 4
^ Installing Fig. 9
^ Marking Fig. 6
^ Installing seal -item 10-
12 Bolt, 10 Nm (7 ft. lbs.)
13 O-ring
^ For wiring guide
^ Always replace
14 Conductor strip
^ With wiring guide and connector
^ Can be removed and installed with transmission installed
15 Retaining bracket
^ For conductor strip connector, installing refer to Fig. 11
16 Bolt, 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.)
17 Plug for solenoid valves
^ Remove solenoid valves with 3373 =>Fig. 3
18 Sealing plug
^ Remove before removing and installing free wheel
^ Insert plug so that lug is located in groove on housing refer to Fig. 5
^ Place O-rings onto sealing plug
19 O-ring
^ Always replace
20 O-ring
^ Always replace
21 Operating rod for manual selector valve
^ Unhooking refer to Fig. 4
^ Install with stepped side facing manual selector valve refer to Fig. 7
^ Adjusting refer to Fig. 8





Fig. 1 ATF, draining
^ Place container under transmission.
^ Remove plug -2-.
^ Remove overflow pipe -1- and allow ATE to drain.
^ Screw overflow pipe in onto stop.

^ Cut open seal -arrow- with side cutters, always replace seal.
^ After repairs are completed, install new seal on plug and screw in hand-tight to fill with ATE
^ Fill with 3 L (3.16 qt) of ATE then check ATE level and top-up.

^ Place 3373 onto stop under the solenoid valve plug.
^ Remove plug with 3373 in direction of arrow.
^ Remove bolt -1-.

When removing the valve body, the manual selector valve -1- remains in valve body.
^ Shift selector lever/shaft to position "1"
^ Full manual selector valve out until it is just possible to unhook operating rod -2-.
^ Secure manual selector valve so that it cannot fall out

Remove sealing plug from housing before removing and installing free wheel, otherwise sealing plug and O-ring will be damaged.
^ Install O-rings to sealing plug.
^ Insert sealing plug in hole in transmission housing -arrow-.

Code letters are stamped on metal tab. Metal tab must remain on valve body.
Allocation valve body/transmission.

^ Turn manual selector valve -1- so that shoulder faces operating rod.
^ Guide operating rod -2- with manual selector into valve body.

^ Move selector shaft to position "P".
^ Push operating rod with manual selector valve into valve body to stop (direction of arrow) and tighten bolt to 4 Nm ( 35 inch lbs.)

Notes:
^ Manual selector valve must always be resting against the stop. Counter-hold in direction of arrow when tightening bolt.
^ Always replace bolt and manual selector valve retaining clip,

^ Route conductor strip as illustrated. Do not kink or twist when installing.





Fig. 10 ATF screen, installing
^ Before installing ATF screen, insert seal in valve body.
^ Firmly press ATF screen on valve body.

^ Connect conductor strip connector to lower retainer.
^ Install upper retainer with recess -arrow- to connector lug.
^ Tighten bolt to 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.).
